Plain answers to questions Ontario business owners actually ask — about accessibility law, what things cost, and what technology is worth. Written from work we have done, not from someone else's blog.
Compliance & regulation.
AODA website accessibility: who must comply, and by when
Two different thresholds catch Ontario businesses out — 50 or more employees must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA, but 20 or more must file a compliance report, and the next one is due 31 December 2026. Under 20, neither applies.
PIPEDA and PHIPA: which one applies to you
Ontario has no provincial private-sector privacy law, so PIPEDA applies to businesses of any size. PHIPA covers health information custodians regardless of size. Plus the 24-month breach-record rule almost everyone misses.
Search & websites.
Why you show up for some searches and not others
For local searches, how close you are to the person searching is the largest single factor — and the one thing optimization cannot change. What that means for what is actually worth paying for.
Moving off a website builder without losing your rankings
Rankings are lost in migrations for one dominant reason: URLs change and nothing tells Google where they went. What to inventory, what gets forgotten, and the sequence that works.
What this is.
A reference library rather than a blog. Each page answers one question properly and is kept accurate as the facts change, rather than being published once and left to age. We add one when there is something genuinely worth writing down — usually because a client asked it and we could not find a straight answer anywhere.
If there is something you want answered here, tell us. The best topics come from real questions.
Got a question we have not answered?
Ask it. One 30-minute call, and a straight answer whether or not it turns into work.
